Richard Yap popularly known as Papa Chen, attributed to his role as the father of Kim Chui/Jade in ‘My Binondo Girl‘. Perhaps a lot of girls and fans of Richard Yap aka Papa Chen are curious, what he does for a living before he became one of the cast of ‘My Binondo Girl’? Richard (44 years old), though has pure Chinese blood, he was born on 18th of May, 1967 in Cebu allowing him to speak fluently of ‘Visayan’ language. Prior to being an actor, he is happily married for 18 years and has two kids aged 15 and 8. He worked on a Marketing company to become a commercial model. He appeared on several Chowking fast-food tv commercial for seven years and as well as on telephone company commercial. Wife Melody Yap also has TV appearance. If you can still recall, the doctor who talked to Papa Chen about his illness that is the wife of Richard Yap.
Richard Yap is a late bloomer in showbiz industry, since he only received much attention when he portray Papa Chen Sy role where he acted as husband to Ai-Ai and Cherry Pie. He is also a cold-hearted father who doesn’t give much attention to his daughters because of Chinese culture he had. Since then, the name Richard Yap became talk-of-the-town, trends on twitter, and has several facebook fan-page. He appeared as the Korean father of Alfred Vargas on ‘Maalaala Mo Kaya’ episode entitled ‘Love Potion’. The most recent TV appearance he had, was on ‘Kris TV’ on 22nd of February, 2012.
