FHM March 2012 cover photo featuring Bela Padilla wearing bikini surrounded by five black females received much criticism as racist from local spectators and the buzz it created even caught the attention of BBC News. Bela Padilla airs her side on the issue which according to her it never come to her mind about the cover as intentional act of discrimination. She further exclaimed that the caption “stepping out of the shadows” has nothing related to being racist instead it’s all about her leaving the previous image as perhaps teen star and transforming oneself to something more daring actress.

On the interview performed by BBC News Mishal Husain, Bela Padilla apologizes to everyone who got offended by the FHM cover. She suggested to those who got offended have to see the article to understand the story behind the cover. On the later part of the interview Bela said that FHM has recalled the issue and the latter is releasing a new cover. The young actress told that she has no intention of hurting anyone.
